Hi there, I am so excited that you are even reading this website..
My name is Malati, I go by Mala. I am Indian by birth, and I have lived in US for about 20 years now..
Me and my team has taken 3 years to develop this world of The Mumbai Girl for you. Welcome, come in and explore.
Some of these stories you will see are my own experiences growing up in India and while looking for marriage alliance.
Indian marriages are family made, have castes, involve Kundali (birth chart) and is not known much to western world. The girl and the guy are introduced by family in very public ceremony. The girl is expected to cook for the guests. She is also judged not only on her looks, but also on the way she walks and presents herself. “Is she going to be a good wife?”
As I grew up, I also realized that marriages were extremely hypocritical and biased. In one of such meetings, since I was making more money than my prospect, so I was asked to take a job that was lower in salary. His ego was hurt, knowing that I was making more money than him.
Indian families are very loud, both in colour and volume. They are also very loving and supportive. Most Indian kids don’t work while going to colleges, parents pay for their tuition. Hence the family ties that are much stronger than in western world.
In India, we also don’t take appointments to visit, we just show up.. We also feel that it’s our birth right to be in everyones life, meddle with it, especially the aunts.. that makes for such a good comedy.
The Mumbai Girl, is Indian Dramedy series for English Speaking Audience. This world is thematic mashup of “How I met your Mother” meets “Silicon Valley” with colorful glamour of India’s rich heritage, festivals & traditions with a female protagonist.
This series has love and loyalty of 2 girl friends, most nurturing parents, a known-it-all grandmother, an acid attack survivor, a Hijara (India’s 3rd gender), satirical office politics, and multiple love interests.. The Mumbai Girl shows you how the poor suffer in India while the rich enjoy the luxuries, but none can escape the woes of finding love.
Through this series I want to give you raw, and most emotional experience of what it is like to live a life in India, as a female native..
