MADHURI & SUDHAKAR KHARE
Madhuri (47) is Ria’s nosey aunt. Though her intentions are noble, she derives pleasure from thinking she is helping everybody, though most of the time she is meddling in someone else's business. It is common for her to enter rooms without knocking, open things without asking, go places without being invited, and eat off of another person's plate.
Though her husband Sudhakar is the man of the house, Madhuri does the most talking. Her loyalty is to her family, and she loves her sister-in-law very much, but she often makes decisions that affect her and other family members, who must then adapt to them. Having no children herself, Madhuri often projects her motherly values on Ria. Since Madhuri believes that giving away a daughter is the best karma that one could have and that helping Ria will help her get into heaven, marrying Ria off is one of her top priorities.
Sudhakar (53) is not a great provider for himself and his family, and his older brother, Manohar, was the one who helped him get his job at the railways. The brothers remain very close, and they work together as equals, but their mother still treats Sudhakar like a child because he is not the man that Manohar is. Sudhakar often complains about his wife when at work with “the guys,” but he would never say these things to Madhuri because she frightens him – AND the guys.
