Suraj Agrawal
Reserved, intelligent, and confident, Suraj (27) is an engineer who went to IIT with Ria, where they became as close as society would allow. Over time, Suraj began to flirt with Ria, his greatest crush, through subtle verbal interactions. Now that Suraj lives in New York, he expresses himself even better through text messages and emails.
Suraj is brave and confident enough to move across continents and away from his family, whereas Ria doesn't think she would be able to. This is how Suraj can work in an IT firm on Wall Street and live in a Manhattan high rise, where he can enjoy all the perks of living in the Big Apple.
Suraj and Ria both thrive on being the nerds that they are, and their subtle "flirtationship" during their college years will cause the viewer to root for them to get together in the future.
Suraj comes from a broken home and has commitment issues as a result. His first memories of his parents are abusive ones. Though his sister remained in the rural part of Southern India to practice Eastern Medicine, Suraj opted to run away to the United States to further his career. Now, Suraj is caught up in the Western rat race and feels like he has no idea what he's doing; Suraj is out of college, has a job, makes a living, and has a girlfriend, but he's having trouble figuring out what comes next.
Suraj has no goals and has nothing left to prove to anybody. He may have mediocre intelligence compared to Ria and Esha, but what Suraj lacks in brain power he makes up for with his drive and tremendous work ethic. That's why his late-night phone calls with Ria are possible; he is usually up late working.
